There is a quality of light in the British Virgin Islands that exists nowhere else on earth. It arrives without warning — a moment when the sea shifts from deep indigo to the clearest turquoise, when the clouds part over Norman Island and cast their shadows across the water like slow-moving brushstrokes. We have spent years chasing these moments: climbing to altitude before sunrise, descending into the blue before the current turns, waiting on a hillside above Anegada until the flamingos move.
